Introducing an Interactive Tool for Expat Parents Based on the Book Nourished: Third Culture Kids and the Village They Need

Some seasons are harder than others. Now there’s a tool to help you see why.
–
You look back on a particular year and think, “I don’t get why that was hard.” Nothing terrible happened, no family crisis, no personal trauma. Yet your child, or younger you, struggled. Something felt lonely. The support just wasn’t there, and you still can’t figure out why.
–
One of the central insights in my new book, Nourished: Third Culture Kids and the Village They Need, is that children need specific support structures to build resilience – and for globally mobile families, those structures get disrupted over and over again. Transitions simply do that. When those supports go missing, it leaves a mark that feels hard to pinpoint.
–
The Nourished Companion Simulator lets you see all of that, and it’s free.

You can build your own childhood story map by plotting which crucial support structures were in place and where they were missing. You can also build your child’s map alongside it. Suddenly, the harder seasons take a visual form, making sense in a new way. So do the wonderful seasons.

The simulator also includes a library of safe space responses based on the framework by TCK Training. These are phrases that turn hard conversations, even conflict, into connection points rather than walls. They build secure attachment right when things would normally go sideways. Then when a new move or season comes, you can download your story map, reset it, and start again.

Families of faith will also find an interactive Biblical study guide.

This simulator was built by Jason Weimer as a companion to the book, but you don’t have to read the book first. Just start building your map and see what patterns begin to emerge.
